Tribe Selection in the Game
The first thing you’ll need to consider when starting Travian is selecting the right tribe.
In Travian there are three different tribes that you can choose from, each with their own strengths and weaknesses; they include: Romans, Gauls, and Teutons.
The Romans of The Game
Very beginner friendly. If you are new to Travian and just want to get a hang of things then you’ll want to consider starting off with the Romans for their ease of use. Compared to the Gauls and Teutons, the Romans offer a balanced attack and defense which comes in handy when you are getting yourself familiarized with the Travian world. Other benefits and features of the Romans include:
Strengths:
- Well balanced
- Great builders – Hey they are based on the Roman Empire after all.
- Defense bonus through wall.
- Strong infantry
- Merchant load – 500 units of resources
- Lengthy and expensive training
- Weak defense against enemy
The Gauls of the Game
If “strategy” is the name of your game then the Gauls are the right tribe for you. Gauls specialize in cavalry. The Gauls really open up the window for tactical game play and diversifying your lines of attack. Bear in mind that in order for you to use the Gauls to their full potential requires some experience and creative thinking. However, new players should not be afraid of using the Gauls their strong defense provides room for error. Some other things you need to know about the Gauls include:
Strengths:
- Strong Defense
- Speed bonus– the fastest Tribe out of the three
- Horses provide precise attacks
- Cranny Size – Gaul crannies can carry twice the amount of resources.
- Cheap settlers
Weaknesses:
- Siege weapons are expensive
- Beginning unit poor at raiding
The Teutons of Travian:
Want to live out your inner sadist? Then look no further than the Teutons. As the most aggressive tribe out of the three, the Teutons love to pillage and plunder. However, the Teutons come at the cost of discipline and control. Using this rebellious group will set you back in areas of speed and defense. As a result, the Teutons are recommended for experienced players. Here are some more details about the Teutons:
Strengths:
- Plunder bonus – enemies can only hide 2/3 of its crannies
- Indestructible earth wall
- Cheap and quick development
Weaknesses:
- Very slow
- Weak Defense
- Not beginner-friendly
